My Mac Lipstick Collection... So Far

I love lipstick. Part of the reason for the name of my blog (The Lipstick, The Girl and Her Wardrobe for the less observant of you) is down to the fact that I am rarely seen without lipstick on, and my favourite brand to buy lipsticks from is Mac. I know that it is a stereotype for beauty bloggers to own practically every product Mac that has ever released, but my Mac collection is surprisingly small and mainly consists of these 6 lipsticks - 

From L to R - Rebel, Mac Red, Morange, Vegas Volt, Please Me and Viva Glam Gaga 2

Rebel Satin -

Rebel is a beautiful deep purple with a strong pink undertone running through it. While it looks a lot darker in the bullet it is not as scary on the lips as it is sheerer and moisturizing, though if I want to make it darker and more vampy I will line all over my lips with either a black or brown eyeliner before applying the lipstick on top.

Mac Red Satin -

Mac Red is my favourite red lipstick that Mac does but I don't often hear it being mentioned a lot. Unlike lots of the other red's that Mac does, Mac Red is a Satin not Matte finish and hence very moisturizing, it is also a pinky red with a blue undertone and will therefore makes your teeth look very white. Morange Amplified -

Morange is my all time favourite lipstick and so unlike any lipstick from any other brand. It is the brightest orange you can imagine and welcome change to your typical red or pink lipstick. While Morange will suit almost anyone it looks especially great on those with blue eyes, as blue and orange are opposite on the colour wheel.

Vegas Volt Amplified -

Vegas Volt is probably my least worn Mac lipstick but is still an absolutely beautiful colour. It is the perfect coral colour in my favourite finish: amplified, so it is incredibly pigmented but still moisturizing without appearing glossy.

Please Me Matte -

Please Me is the perfect powder pink that can either be sheered out by patting it on with your finger or built up for an opaque finish. Combine with a brown lip liner like Spice and you've got that perfect Kylie Jenner Matte lip.

Viva Glam Gaga 2 Amplified -

Viva Glam Gaga 2 was one of the first Mac lipsticks I ever bought and was part of Lady Gaga's Viva Glam collaboration with Mac in which the proceeds from the collection go towards helping those affected by HIV and AIDS. While on its own it can give the appearance of foundation lips, combined with either a pink lipgloss or Please Me it creates to perfect nude lip.

While it may seem like I have a small collection in comparison to other bloggers, I wear all of these lipsticks religiously and they cover the whole colour spectrum, so I don't often find myself needing anymore.

April Rate Or Hate

This is the first time in a while when I've actually been dreading the next month, but it's hard not to when you've got 7 exams coming up that don't end until mid June. For those of you in the same position as me, trust me when I say I feel your pain but hopefully this post will provide a bit of a welcome break from your revision instead of a means of procrastination.

This months rate or hate - 

Bare Minerals Ready Foundation and Mac Viva Glam Gaga 2

Rate -

Bare Minerals Original Foundation is my go to everyday foundation and has been for a couple of years now, but when I ran out a couple of months now and Debenhams didn't my colour I had a decision to make; do I buy the foundation in the wrong colour and try make it work or buy the pressed version. As you can see I bought the pressed version of my normal foundation (in the right colour) and I have been pleasantly surprised. There isn't a lot of difference between the original and the ready foundation apart from the ready foundation is a lot less messy and gives a slightly fuller coverage, which are only positives in my opinion!

Hate -

I bought this lipstick a couple of years ago now and at the time I really liked it but I haven't worn it in months because I have just gone off it. I don't think that Viva Glam Gaga 2 is a very flattering shade as it creates the appearance of foundation lips and makes me look ill. It isn't as bad if I wear a lipgloss over the top and it may suit a different skin tone but I do regret buying it. I guess on the plus side the money I paid for it goes to charity so it wasn't a total waste.

4 Products That You Didn't Realize Were Multifunctional

Reading beauty blogs is addictive and can cause a serious dent in your purse. We see people review products on a daily basis and often get sucked into the hype surrounding a product and immediately feel the need to buy it, resulting in a collection of products that I've hardly used. So today I thought I'd show you how to use products, that you probably already own, in ways that you've perhaps never thought of before, showing you that shopping your own collection can lead to as many new discoveries as buying newly released products from Boots.

1. Using lipstick as a blush -

What many people do not know is that just because lipstick has the word 'lip' in it, it doesn't have to be used on your lips as it works amazingly well on your cheeks as a blush. I like to rub a bit of lipstick on the back of my hand before using my fingers to blend it onto my cheeks for a pretty flush of colour. Be careful with what colour lipstick you use though as some work better than others.

2. Using a cream eyeshadow to contour -

I only discovered how well the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Permanent Taupe worked as a contour the other day when I ran out of my Sleek Contour Kit. The Maybelline Color Tattoos are designed to be used as cream eyeshaddows but Permanent Taupe is a matte brown that reminds me a lot of Illamasqua's Cream Pigment in Hollow which is a notoriously good product for contouring pale skin. But remember to always make sure that you are using a matte eyeshaddow to contour your face.

3. Using an eyeshadow as a highlighter -

Light shimmery eyeshadows can work as amazing highlighters on the top of your cheek bones as they are often highly pigmented. I love to use my Mac Pressed Pigment in Light Touch as both a highlighter and an eyeshadow as it looks beautiful as either because of its pink undertone and the way it catches the light.

4. Using a clear mascara to set your eyebrows -

Okay so this one you've probably heard of before, but clear mascara is a great cheap alternative to buying brow setting products. A word of warning though is that it will turn brown over time if you fill in your eyebrows like I do!

Finding products like these that can be used in more than one way can create versatility in your collection while cutting down it's size, they're also very handy for traveling when your suitcase has a weight restriction.

What's On My Face - Prom Edition

I thought that today I'd do a short and sweet post telling you guys what makeup I'm going to be wearing to my prom tomorrow. I love 'What's On My Face' posts and the articles they do in Two magazine showing you what makeup artists keep in their kit, so this is going to be a cross between the two.

Just a quick note saying that, per usual, I am not bragging. I don't know why anyone would ever brag about what makeup they have or wear but I just thought I'd mention it, I'm doing this post because I enjoy reading them so I thought that other people might as well. February Rate or Hate

February has been such a weird month weather wise,is it too much to ask for it to be summer already so I can buy and wear pretty floral summer dresses and denim shorts? obviously yes as its cold and I'm ill, ew. 

I'm really looking forward to March as on Saturday (2nd of March) me and my friends are going to Cardiff to see *One Direction! Later in the month its my sister's 18th birthday so I'll be going shopping to buy her lots of nice presents, I might do a post showing you what she got if she let's me and if you'd like to see that kind of post?

*Note - I know lots of people do not like One Direction, but I do so if you don't get over it!

This months Rate or Hate -

Mac Studio Finish Concealer in NW15 and Clarins Beauty Flash Balm 

Rate - 

You may have seen the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm on many blogs as I know it is a favourite among many beauty bloggers but I've had this little tester for a while as my mum was given this at a Clarins counter when buying a lot of makeup and she gave it to me. 

My skin has been hideous this month because I've been ill so I've been using Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It gives a very matte finish which I personally don't like, but this balm has been my savior as it brightens my skin and makes my foundation have a more natural finish. 

It doesn't make your skin look to dewy or feel greasy it just leaves your skin looking bright and glowing. It does claim to 'Tighten' your skin but I don't really see these effects, that could be because I am quite young and my skin doesn't need tightening or just because it doesn't tighten your skin, I don't know. When I finish this tester I will be buying the full size version for sure!

Hate -

I feel bad saying that I hate any Mac product especially one that so many people love but I can't stand this concealer. I bought it under a year again when I was looking for a full coverage concealer that wasn't orange and covered my spots, so after hearing lots of good things about this I decided to pop down to Mac and buy this, something that I really regret doing now. 

This concealer claims to cover everything even tattoo's but didn't cover my spots, it covered a few little marks but not the big red spots that you don't want anyone to see. On my skin it highlights dry matches and makes my skin look cakey, I also tried using it under my eyes but it creased like nothing I've ever used before.

It also slides around my face and doesn't last even a couple of hours! I thought this was because I have slightly oily skin but then on my dry patches it looks hideous, so unless you have perfect normal skin this will not suit you.

For £14.50 from a high end brand I would expect a lot better! But I'm going to use it up anyway as I hate wasting money.

Have you ever used any of these products? Do you think the Mac Studio Finish Concealer is a horrible product or maybe I'm just using it wrong!

Mac Red Lipstick

For months now I have been looking for the perfect red lipstick for my collection.

I love red lipsticks as they can be worn all year round not just in summer or winter unlike other lipsticks. I think that getting the right lipstick can also complete an outfit or makeup look, so when I wear a simple outfit without a lot of colour I just pop on a bright lipstick to spice it up a bit.

So when I received Mac Red from my sister at Christmas I was overjoyed. Previously when looking at Mac lipsticks I had never really looked at Mac Red or heard a lot about it, so when I received it I was intrigued to how the colour would appear on my lips. Mac Red is a lovely red lipstick with a pink undertone and it is in a satin finish. I love the finish of this lipstick because it isn't extremely sheer or glossy but not drying or matte, it is moisturizing yet still very pigmented.
