January Rate or Hate

30 January 2013
I can't believe that January is nearly over, I have a feeling this year is going to go by very  quickly.

At the end of ever month lots of beauty and fashion bloggers will do their monthly favorites, I love these posts but wanted to do something slightly different. Each month I'm going to tell you 2 products that I either rate or hate that month (see what I did with the rhyming then!) This way I don't bore you with a long list and give you a balance of opinions by telling you something I wouldn't recommend you try.

This months Rate and Hate -

Tresemmé Protect Leave In Conditioner and Bare Minerals Flawless Face Brush

Rate -
Over the summer my hair got in extremely bad conditioner because I was curling my fine hair nearly everyday, it became very dry and frizzy due to all of the split ends I had. But this product has helped my hair on the way to recovery.
I use the Tresemmé Protect Leave In Conditioner once every week and leave it on for about 5 minutes before washing it out and drying my hair. It leaves my hair incredibly soft, reduces the frizz and I'm sure that after a few trips to the hair dresser and use of this, my hair will be in better condition in a few months.

Hate -
This miniature version of the Flawless Face Brush came in the Get Started kit by Bare Minerals that my parents got me for Christmas last year. It was intended to be used with the Bare Minerals Foundation but I personally prefer to use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush as I feel it gives a better coverage and finish.
But I have been reaching for a bit of blusher to brighten my face in these dull winter months and thought this would be the perfect brush to apply my blush. How wrong can you be?
For a high end brand I expected this brush to be amazing but all of the bristles keep falling out, and its the same with all the other brushes that came in the set. I don't know if mine are just faulty but its so annoying when all the little bristles stick to my face as they are incredibly difficult to get off.
I can't stress enough how much I am disappointed with not only this brush but all of my Bare Minerals brushes and I would really not recommend them.

What are your rates or hates this month? Leave them in the comments as I'd love to know!

Sunday Nails - Let It Snow!

27 January 2013
Due to the success of my last Sunday Nails post, I decided that I will do a series of Sunday Nail posts showing you guys what I've been wearing on my nails that week.

A lot of these posts will involve nail art, as even though a lot of the time I just wear one simple colour on my nails I want to show you guys something special and interesting!

As you may see all the snow in the UK this week has influenced my nails!

The nail varnishes I used were Barry M Matt White, Barry M Blue Moon, Models Own Nail Art Pen in White and L.A Colours Sassy Sparkle Glitter Topcoat.

Also as some of you may have noticed this week I hit 100 followers, I cannot tell you how much this means to me as my blog isn't even 1 month old yet! I'd just like to thank all of you for your support and kind comments on my posts as it means the world to me!

Sunday Nails

20 January 2013
I thought that since my last post was very wordy that today I would do a very quick simple post showing you my nails. Please excuse the few minor chips as they are a couple of days old, but I wanted to show you my first attempt of using my Models Own nail art pens that I showed in my last haul.

I found that they were very simple to use and dried quickly, which is good as I hate waiting around for my nails to dry. The only problem I found was that when I went to apply my topcoat they smudged, I don't know whether this was the topcoat I used or the  nail art pens but either way it was really irritating!

The nail varnishes I used were Barry M Black 47, Matt White 66, Basecoat and OPI  Rapidry Topcaot.

If you like these kind of posts I can do them every Sunday.

The Liebster Blog Award

18 January 2013
I have seen The Liebster Blog Award popping up on quite a few blogs recently but I never really understood what it was.
Shortly after googling it I found out it was an award passed on from blogger to blogger recognizing blogs that have less than 200 followers. I couldn't find out where the chain originated but I did find that the rules vary.

I was kindly nominated by the Maddy from the blog Unstitched, who has always supported my blog. I am extremely grateful that she even considered my blog let alone nominated me and if she hadn't of already been nominated I would have nominated her! So please check out her blog if you have time!

Now onto the rules, as I mentioned before they do vary but I am going by the one's Maddy put on her blog!
  • List 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions given to you
  • Ask 11 new questions to the bloggers that you chose to nominate
  • Choose 9 bloggers with 200 or less followers to nominate
  • Go to each bloggers page and let them know that you have nominated them for the award
  • Thank the person that gave you the award and add a link on your post back to their blog
I struggled to think of 11 facts about myself but here they are-
  1. I am Welsh. Even though I live and was born in England, all of my family (apart from my sister) were born and either live or have lived in North Wales.
  2. At the moment I am in my last year of school finishing my GCSE's, and next year I am hoping to go to sixth form. I am studying GCSE Art, Drama and French and Business AS as well as all the core subjects.
  3. My favourite meal is butternut squash risotto but my favourite food is chocolate.
  4. My favourite animals are either hedgehogs or baby elephants. When I was little my mum and my friends mum's set up a little club for us called Hedgehogs and we used to have hedgehogs living under our garden shed. As for baby elephants, I love Dumbo its one of my favourite Disney films.
  5. I have a slight obsession with the Kardashians/Odoms/Jenners/Disicks (You get the point!)
  6. I love to dance. Ever since I started my first dance class at the ages of 6/7 I have been obsessed with dancing and performing. For a while I took ballet and I got to about grade 5 but I mainly do modern and jazz.
  7. My favourite TV program of all time is Gossip Girl and I was gutted when it finished. When the series 1-6 box set is released I'll be buying it straight away, and if you have never watched it I really recommend buying it or the book's they're AMAZING!
  8. I really want to visit New York, my sister went on a school trip and it looks like such an interesting and beautiful city.
  9. My dream job would combine my love for fashion and business, I'm not quite sure what it is yet but I would like to work in the fashion industry.
  10. I'm very organised, everything has detailed sticky notes on so that I don't forget anything.
  11. I have a huge fear of spiders and every time I see one, I run away and jump on the nearest chair until it has been removed from the room.
My questions from Maddy were-
  1. What is your favourite beauty product
  2. What is your staple wardrobe piece
  3. If you could have any bag in the world what would it be?
  4. What is your favourite drink?
  5. Do you like any weird foods/combinations?
  6. Who is your style inspiration?
  7. Who is your favourite youtuber?
  8. What is your favourite song?
  9. Describe your perfect evening?
  10. What is your biggest fashion mistake?
  11. What is your favourite lipstick shade?
  1. My favourite beauty product would have to be my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. I have quite a lot of acne scaring on my face and this foundation covers it without making my skin look cakey, it also lasts all day which is always a bonus.
  2. My wardrobe staple piece would have to be my leather jacket, as it goes with everything I own. I think the perfect jacket always finishes off an outfit and my leather jacket always finishes off my outfit.
  3. I didn't even need to think about this question. The Chanel 2.55 black quilted bag will forever be my dream bag as I will never be able to afford it, though if someone did have a bit of spare cash lying around and wanted to buy it for me I wouldn't refuse!
  4. I think my favourite drink has to be plain old diet coke, pretty boring I know!
  5. I like ketchup and pizza together if that classifies as a weird food combination. If you haven't tried it you must, it just takes pizza to a whole new level.
  6. I don't really look to celebrities for style inspiration but if I had to pick it would be the Olsen twins or everyone's favourite fashionista Alexa Chung.
  7. I love lots of different Youtubers and find it very difficult to pick one but if I had to pick one it would have to be the beautiful Gracie from the Ugly Face Of Beauty not only does she have an amazing sense of style she is a real inspiration.
  8. I always find it really difficult to chose a favourite song as my tastes change all the time but it would probably be When You Were Young by The Killers. This may surprise people who know me as Beyonce is my idol and I'm in love with Justin Bieber and One Direction, but this song always reminds me of being a kid and never gets old.
  9. My perfect evening would be spending time with my friends, as it wouldn't matter where we were as we'd still have a good time.
  10. My biggest fashion mistake was probably this leopard print top that I would constantly wear when I was a kid, it was unflattering and I looked like a mini Bet Lynch.
  11. My favourite lipstick shade will always be morange by Mac, I hate the colour orange apart from on my lips and nails.
My questions for the people I've nominated are -
  1. If you could steal 1 celebrities wardrobe who would it be and why?
  2. Shoes or Bags?
  3. What is your favourite eyeshaddow?
  4. High end or drugstore makeup?
  5. What is your favourite clothes shop?
  6. What is your favourite makeup brand?
  7. What is your favourite item of jewelry?
  8. What is your dream pair of shoes?
  9. What is your favourite TV program?
  10. Do you have any 'investment' pieces in your wardrobe?
  11. What is your favourite shade of nail varnish?

Small Haul

12 January 2013
When me and my lovely mother were in town today we decided to have a quick look in a couple of shops and see if we could find any bargains in the sales. Sadly we did not find any clothing items in the sales but we did get a couple of bargains from Primark, Boots and Curry's PC World, so I thought I would do a small haul.
(Please excuse the photo's the lighting in my room is awful because outside the weather is miserable)

The first place we went to was Primark. Now, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with  Primark, as I love their prices but sometimes the quality and products are quite rubbish, but I already knew what I wanted before I went, so there wasn't that much of a problem.

XS Regular Fit Crew Neck T-Shirt
Primark £2.50
First I found this plain white t-shirt in the men's section for £2.50! Personally I prefer the men's basic t-shirts as I like the style more, and as it's only a basic item it doesn't really matter that it is a men's t-shirt.
With this t-shirt I am planning to roll the sleeves up, so that it looks similar to the one's Topshop are charging about £14 for.

Black Maxi Skirt
Primark £8
Also in Primark (but in the women's section this time!) I found this lovely black jersey maxi skirt for £8. I have been looking for a skirt like for a long time but I can never find one I like for a reasonable price, but this skirt it cheap yet the jersey is still quite thick, unlike other skirts where the jersey is see through. Unfortunately it does have a slit up the leg, which I personally don't like, so I will either try sew up or try to rock it but for £8  I couldn't miss it!

Frilly Socks
Primark £1.50
The last thing I bought from Primark are these black socks with a lace trim. Previously I bought a white pair from Topshop for £3.50 but in Primark they sell a large variety of colours for £1.50, that means I could buy too pairs from Primark for less than the price of 1 pair in Topshop bargain!

eylure 107 Lashes
Boots £5.35
We then went to boots and I bought the eylure Naturalites Evening Wear 107 Lashes for a dance show I am doing next week. They are dramatic yet still look quite real as not all the lashes are the same length and half the price of MAC lashes at £5.35.

Models Own Nail Art Pen's
Boots £6 each
Also in Boots I bought two Models Own Nail Art Pen's, one in black and the other in white. I have been eyeing these up for a long time as I love nail art but hate using cocktail sticks, so when I saw that Boots were doing an offer on Models Own nail and lip products I had to buy them. The offer was buy two Models Own nail or lip products (excluding the nail trio's) for £8 and as each nail art pen cost £6 each, I saved £4, plus got some more points for my boots card which is always nice.

Camlink TP1700 Tripod
Curry's PC World £12.99
And the last thing I bought was from Curry's PC world, no they have not started selling clothes or makeup, I went in there looking for a camera tripod. I didn't want anything very expensive, I just wanted a basic tripod that was full size and I settled on the Camlink TP1700 Tripod as it is full size, comes with a carry case and had £7 off reducing it from £19.99 to £12.99. The only thing is that when I got home my Dad said that he had a tripod in the cupboard somewhere that had never been used, so if I can find that I will be taking this one back and getting a refund.

As I mentioned next week I am in a dance show and will be at rehearsals all week so I might not have time to post, the week after that I then have an exam that I need to revise for. Please stick with me, I will hopefully manage to post but they will just not be as frequent as I'd like.

New Purse

6 January 2013
My old purse was a small tapestry coin purse that I bought from Topshop about 2 years ago, it was pretty and nice while it lasted but sadly it is no longer big enough. There was no room to store cards and when I tried to pay for something in a shop it would explode as soon as I opened it and everything would fall out. It was quite awkward crawling on the fall picking up my pennies every time everything fell out. So it was about time I got a new purse.

My new purse is from Dune, which is mainly a shoe shop but also sells accessories and bags. Its name is KIDDS - Metal Stud Detail Purse.

Front

It is black and studded all over the front and back as you can see from the pictures.

Back
I love studs and the fact they are gold makes them even better!

It has plenty of room for cards

I like to keep my change in this middle section

And my notes in the zip compartment on the back
Yet again sorry it's not an outfit post, I'm working on it!

January Wishlist

3 January 2013
I'm sorry this isn't an outfit post, I am planning a few outfit posts but I need the weather to be nice to get some decent photo's and the weather the past couple of days hasn't been fabulous. Hopefully my next post will be an outfit post, but instead today I'd thought I'd do a January Wishlist of things I would like to buy this month.

Dr. Martens 8 Eyelet Lace Up Boot - £100
I've wanted a pair of Dr. Martens for SO long but never really known which pair I wanted. These boots will be perfect all year round and I think a worthy investment as I am hoping they will last me a very long time. Hopefully if I save up I'll be able to afford them for summer, as they will look perfect with a pair of distressed shorts.

Topshop Burnout Letter Tee - £22
While browsing through the 'New In' section on the Topshop website I found this really unusual jersey t-shirt with letters printed on it. I really want to build up my collection of basic t-shirts as they are really versatile and easy to style but this is different to anything I've seen before. I do however think that £22 is a little over priced for a t-shirt but I will probably find a way of justifying it in my head.

Asos Chain Necklace - £12
I know a lot of people think that chains are chavvy but I think like any item of clothing or jewellery all depends on the way you style it. Don't worry I don't plan on pairing it with a pink velour tracksuit, probably just a simple white t-shirt. But I am a bit worried about buying jewellery online as I like my jewelry to be heavy, so I like to hold it.

River Island Gold Spikes - £6
I think these spikes from River Island are such a good idea. I always want to stud my clothes but don't want to buy 2 of everything (1 studded and the other not). So with these you can customize your clothes but you are not restricted to them being studded all the time. Though I don't think 10 is enough personally so I would have to buy 2 packs.

MUA Fur Effects Nails In Fluffy Puff - £3
When I first heard of the fur nail effects MUA was launching this week I was like "WHAT?! FUR Nails???" but then I looked at some pictures and it actually looked so cute! These are either going to be a huge trend or people are going to look at me like I'm crazy! They come in 5 colours - Boo boo fluff, Fluff and Cuddles, Fluffy Bobbin, Fluffy Puff and Fluffy Fuzz. My favorite is Fluffy Puff a baby pink colour. These are available from Superdrug tomorrow (4th January).

Let me know what you are lusting over this month in the comment, I would love to know.

Mac Red Lipstick

1 January 2013
For months now I have been looking for the perfect red lipstick for my collection.

I love red lipsticks as they can be worn all year round not just in summer or winter unlike other lipsticks. I think that getting the right lipstick can also complete an outfit or makeup look, so when I wear a simple outfit without a lot of colour I just pop on a bright lipstick to spice it up a bit.

So when I received Mac Red from my sister at Christmas I was overjoyed. Previously when looking at Mac lipsticks I had never really looked at Mac Red or heard a lot about it, so when I received it I was intrigued to how the colour would appear on my lips. Mac Red is a lovely red lipstick with a pink undertone and it is in a satin finish. I love the finish of this lipstick because it isn't extremely sheer or glossy but not drying or matte, it is moisturizing yet still very pigmented.

If you have tried this lipstick let me know what you think in the comments,

This is The Lipstick, The Girl And Her Wardrobe

Its the first day of 2013 and that means my first ever post on The Lipstick, The Girl And Her Wardrobe.

Through this blog I am hoping to share what I like to wear and what things in the fashion and beauty world I am currently obsessing over.

I have always wanted to start my own blog but never had the will or courage to do it, so at the start of 2013 I thought it would be the perfect new years resolution.
